The technology group Wärtsilä celebrated 20 illustrious years of close partnership and development of the energy scene in Bangladesh. Wärtsilä, a global leader in smart technologies and complete lifecycle solutions for the energy and marine markets, has played an essential part in the country’s journey towards getting everyone under the national grid.
This grand celebration was graced by Jaakko Eskola, President and CEO of Wärtsilä Corporation, Javier Cavada Camino, President of Energy Solutions at Wärtsilä Corporation and many other distinguished guests at a gala dinner held at a city hotel. Mr Eskola thanked business partners and all stakeholders, reiterating the company’s commitment to Bangladesh.
“We recently launched our company purpose – enabling sustainable societies with smart technology. Central to the purpose is our commitment to promoting a low emissions economy, and providing intelligent ways of producing and using energy,” said Jaakko Eskola, President and CEO of Wärtsilä Corporation.
“Uninterrupted power supply in Bangladesh is integral to the growth of the country and we are committed to further invest here to ensure a steady power supply. Through our work, we have proudly served in developing local human resources that has helped to invigorate the growth of the power industry,” said Jillur Rahim, Managing Director, Wärtsilä Bangladesh.
Over the last 20 years, two workshops and a spare parts warehouse facility have been set up to provide enhanced support to power plants customers here.

Wärtsilä has installed base capacity of 4,200 MW in Bangladesh, supplying about 25% of the national grid capacity. The company started operations in Bangladesh in the early nineties with energy solutions sales, marine solutions sales and supporting services and currently has around 50 active customers, both in the public and private sector including Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB). Wärtsilä Bangladesh has two service workshops in Chittagong and Gazipur that offer various specialized services to the customers.
