Wärtsilä Finland Oy, Press release 11 June 2001
On 6 June 2001 Wärtsilä announced that confidential information related to company secrets had been divulged to outsiders. An investigation by the National Bureau of Investigation has revealed that this information involved drawings of certain engine components used in an attempt to manufacture certain spare parts. Also certain components belonging to the engines in our current product range have been stolen. This activity has been going on for a number of years. We are as yet unable to assess the extent of the damage caused.
The Wärtsilä employee involved in the matter no longer works for the company. The individual concerned did not belong to the company’s management, nor did he work in research and development.
