Technology group Wärtsilä and global energy solutions provider RCT Power publicly announce their long-term partnership for the manufacturing of Wärtsilä's Quantum energy storage systems. The partnership was recently strengthened by an extended supply agreement, which allows Wärtsilä to ramp up manufacturing in Malaysia.
RCT is a global technology leader in stationary storage solutions for both domestic and industrial use. With roots in Konstanz, Germany, RCT operates manufacturing facilities in East Asia, building high quality, efficient, and safe energy storage system solutions.
RCT supports Wärtsilä’s pipeline of energy storage project orders globally. The extension of the agreement further solidifies the partnership and enables Wärtsilä to provide significant benefits to its customers by diversifying its supply chain for energy storage products, a critical component for effective risk management and optimising end-to-end supply chain costs.
“Wärtsilä is continuously exploring new supply chain diversification plans to best serve our customers’ evolving needs. This strategic move not only enhances our operational efficiency but also delivers cost savings to our customers,” says Rauni Jaskari, Director of Supply Management, Energy Storage & Optimisation at Wärtsilä Energy.
Wärtsilä and RCT have had a strong relationship since 2019. Today marks an important milestone in the partnership, as the parties celebrated the delivery of more than 6,000 Quantum energy storage units during a ceremony at RCT’s manufacturing facility.
"Wärtsilä is proud to work with RCT to provide advanced energy storage solutions for a safer and more resilient grid,” says Andrew Tang, Vice President, Energy Storage and Optimisation at Wärtsilä Energy. “RCT’s quality-first mindset delivers exceptional energy storage hardware and further strengthens Wärtsilä’s reputation as a globally recognised energy storage integrator that puts safety and quality first.
"Wärtsilä is a respected company with a rich history of 190 years, and a strategic global partner of ours," said Billy Shi, CEO of RCT Power. "We are committed to using our production and engineering resources in Asia to support Wärtsilä's energy storage business. Our focus on long-term partnerships shows our dedication to mutual growth and success."
Wärtsilä’s Quantum is a fully integrated modular and compact energy storage system. The Quantum system supports the integration of storage into electricity grids and the increase of renewables, ensuring the fastest deployment times, lowest lifecycle costs, and smallest system footprint.
In addition to Quantum, Wärtsilä’s Quantum High Energy and Quantum2 are also manufactured by RCT. Quantum High Energy is a next-generation energy storage system with advanced safety features and enhanced energy density. Quantum2 is a fully integrated high-capacity energy storage system designed and optimised for global large-scale deployment.
