The company simultaneously signed a 10-year lease agreement for the office and laboratory areas
Following the announcement last August regarding the transfer of the production plant of Bagnoli della Rosandra and its 255 employees to the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) group, Wärtsilä today sold the remaining part of the site.
At the same time, a long-term lease agreement was signed, for ten years and further renewable, for the office areas and those used as laboratory of Product Validation, Training Centre, canteen and car parking area. These facilities will guarantee the full operation of the Trieste site and its future development in line with the industrial plan.
Until the 31st of December, there will be a transitional phase in which Wärtsilä will manage the entire site in order to complete the transfer activities. During the coming weeks Wärtsilä and the companies of the MSC group (Medlog Real Estate and Innoway Trieste) will meet to optimize the support services for the site with a shared perspective. In the near future, the companies will also start to modify the technical plants to secure Wärtsilä’s operational autonomy, while Medlog and Innoway will be responsible for the remodeling of the industrial site and the installation of the public railway network, which will be carried out by the Coselag Consortium.
The reindustrialization of the Bagnoli della Rosandra industrial site is a major opportunity that will require significant public and private investment. Wärtsilä, Innoway and Medlog RE, as well as the local authorities involved, are all strongly committed to the realization of the project in the shortest possible time in order to ensure a rapid resumption of industrial activity.
Wärtsilä, in the areas at its disposal in Bagnoli della Rosandra, will continue to implement investments and projects on new fuels and engine reconversion, to further strengthen the business line dedicated to sustainable development.
With regard to the office area of Bagnoli della Rosandra, with a view to making the environment pleasant, dynamic and collaborative, work will soon begin on a completely new concept, taking into account people's well-being and in line with current company needs. A restyling of the furnishings and environments will be implemented, with the creation of more sharing and meeting areas, call rooms and personal lockers will also be installed.
