SYNCROLIFT® shiplifts are articulated platforms, consisting of a series of transverse beams supported on each end by electro-mechanical hoists and connected longitudinally by non-rigid structural members, manufactured by Syncrolift AS. The platform is raised and lowered by a large number of synchronized wire drum winches arranged on each side of the dock. It is a relatively simple task to add length to the platform and only slightly more complex one is to add intermediate beams to increase the capacity. The platform is handled by a heavy rail system and accommodated in its own dock. The Syncrolift shiplift system was invented in 1954 by Raymond Pearlson.
