
Regulation 26 of Annex I of MARPOL requires every oil tanker of 150 gt and above and every ship other than an oil tanker of 400 gt and above to carry a Shipboard Oil Pollution Emergency Plan (SOPEP) approved by the Administration. Regulation 16 of Annex II of MARPOL 73/78 requires every ship of 150gt and above that is certified to carry noxious liquid substances in bulk to carry on board a Shipboard Marine Pollution Emergency Plan For Noxious Liquid Substances not later than 1st January 2003. Ships to which both regulations apply may have a combined plan called a Shipboard Marine Pollution Emergency Plan, or SMPEP.
