Technigaz Mark III LNG cargo containment system incorporates a 1.2mmthick waffled 304L stainless steel membrane supported by load-bearing insulation. Stresses in the membrane (due to combined thermal shrinkage, static and dynamic effects of the cargo and hull girder bending) are virtually eliminated thanks to its ability to expand and contract. A plain fibre-reinforced polyurethane is used for the insulation layer and a triplex aluminium foil, glued with glass cloth on both sides, forms the secondary barrier. Mastic behind the insulation panels uniformly distributes loads to the inner hull structure.
