The directive of European Commission about marine equipment for which international conventions require the approval of the national administrations as well as mandatory carriage on board. That means items like live-saving appliances, evacuation systems, fire fighting and prevention, navigation equipment, communications, but also some pollution prevention equipment like oily-water systems, sewage and incinerators. Only equipment proven to comply with the requirements of relevant international instruments is allowed on board of an EU ship.
