Wärtsilä’s Environmental products & services for pollution prevention and emission controls range from reduction of different air emissions to ballast water pollution prevention equipment. Wärtsilä offers Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) that reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions, while Scrubbers for removing sulphur oxides (SOx). All our products fully comply with the stringent local and international regulations set out by IMO & Marpol.
Our portfolio includes a range of products, solutions and services aimed at both land-based power plants and ship installations. Wärtsilä can offer complete systems for both Electro-Chlorination and Ultra Violet Ballast Water Treatment solutions, Sewage treatment plants, Oily Water Separator systems for marine applications as well as total service packages, including start-ups, installations, engineering work, maintenance and repairs.
Whenever primary methods for minimizing the air pollution from ships are not possible, or are insufficient to comply with specific regulations, secondary methods can be considered. A secondary method means that emissions are removed after they have left the source, in this case the engine. Wärtsilä has been working with exhaust gas cleaning systems since the early 90’s, during which time the company has accumulated many years’ experience and deep know-how. This has resulted in products that are fully certified and that guarantees legislative compliance.
Wärtsilä has developed a full wet scrubber portfolio that covers the specific needs for each of our customers’ installations for SOx and particulate reduction. Wärtsilä is also putting great efforts into reducing the environmental impact of its scrubbers. This includes not only cleaning the exhaust gas, but also the wash water from the scrubber system.
Wärtsilä has also been developing means of removing nitrogen oxides (NOx) for more than 20 years. In addition to supplying customers with the equipment needed to run on LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas), Wärtsilä has also developed products for selective catalytic reduction (SCR).
