The technology group Wärtsilä will launch a Digital Acceleration Centre in Singapore this year.

Wärtsilä’s Digital Acceleration Centres enable the innovation, design and go-to-market for digital services and products for the marine and energy sectors faster than ever before, in a more agile way.

The Centres aim to support promising ideas and transform them into service concepts and products in cooperation with customers and partners to co-create greater value.

“Our Digital Acceleration Centres are catalysts that will unlock new business models and services that accelerate value for our customers,” said Marco Ryan, the Chief Digital Officer of Wärtsilä.

Wärtsilä’s first digital acceleration centre is already in operation in the company’s home in Helsinki, Finland, where several active projects are currently underway. The Singapore digital acceleration centre is the next one in line with two more to be opened during 2018 in other global hubs.

“Singapore is widely recognised as the key location in Asia for start-up talent. The robust ecosystem of infrastructure, start-ups, mentors, investors, industry, research and government that’s available here strongly support our vision for the Digital Acceleration Centre. Singapore is also an easy gateway to up-and-coming tech markets in the region, where our offices and customers are located,” said Janne Lautanala, General Manager of Wärtsilä’s Digital Foundry.

Opening DACs is part of Wärtsilä’s digital transformation which will shift Wärtsilä towards a data-driven, insights led, smart technology company that enables sustainable societies.

At Slush Singapore 2017, Wärtsilä announced the Port Community challenge. The competition for start-ups will be kicked off during October, and winning ideas will be taken into the Wärtsilä Digital Acceleration Centre in Singapore as incubation projects. Wärtsilä will team up with Accenture Digital for the challenge, with other maritime industry players to be announced later.
