Construction of ethylene gas carriers (LEG/C) started back in the early 1970`s. Gas Solutions been working in this segment since the beginning. Ethylene carriers are in the range from 4k m3 to 22k m3.

Main cargo is ethylene but other cargoes like ethane, LPG`s, Propylene, Ammonia, VCM and certain chemicals are also on the cargo list, making the vessels flexible in the market.

The newest cargo systems are designed with integrated gas fuel supply systems making the vessels environmentally friendly.

The system supply comprises cargo system engineering, material supply and hand-over to owner with crew training services included.

 

 

    Technical data

    Gas Solutions has been developing the ethylene cargo handling system since the start of this industry. The system has been developed harvesting from practical experiences.

    The system is designed with two cargo segregations that both need to be kept segregated and cooled. The design for cargo tank combinations can be made to project depending on chartering demand for flexibility.

    The deck arrangement is designed for logical and easy access to all equipment. The weather protected design ensures life-long operation of the system.

    The ethylene gas carrier requires a reliquefaction plant of cascade type that effectively will cool down cargoes during laden voyage ensuring the ethylene is ready for discharging according to charter contract.

    The system supply includes the cargo control system which enable remote monitoring and control of the system including various subsystems like the Inert Gas System and interface to the load computer.

     

    Applications

    Ethylene is a raw material for the chemical industry. The end products are numerous, especially various plastic materials. Ethylene is a product based on hydrocarbon inputs.

    Trade patterns are from producers of ethylene to chemical factories for end product fabrication. For instance, from producers in the Middle East to factories in the Far East.

    The equipment associated with cargo handling operations are cargo pumps, booster pumps, cargo heater, cargo vaporizer, the cascade reliquefaction plant, valve arrangement and instrumentation.

    A ethylene tanker design allows for loading of cargo with a certain pressure. Efficient cooldown capabilities are essential. Ethylene is normally discharged at temperature -102,5°C.

    Gas carriers must comply with the standards set by the Gas Code (IGC) and national rules. The Cargo Handling System is designed in accordance with those rules

    The cargo handling system is designed for integration with a gas fuel supply system. Integration makes a logic solution that will enable reduced GHG emissions, improved EEDI figure and improved carbon intensity factor (CII).

    The offered solution enables a flexible vessel for the intended service.The cargo system is designed for remote access and monitoring via our Operim® software. The Operim® enable remote diagnostics and contributes to elevated system uptime.

    Training of ship’s crew in cargo handling operations is developed within Gas Solutions Academy.
