The USNS Lewis and Clark, commissioned in 2006, is the first vessel of fourteen vessels of the T-AKE Class. For each vessel Wärtsilä supplies the 6500 mm diameter fixed pitch propeller and the shafting systems.
The T-AKE Class is a class of dry cargo and ammunition supply ships, and operated by the Military Sealift Command (MSC) for the US Navy. The ships, which are not armed and are classified as non-combatant ships, are capable of operating independently for extended periods at sea while providing underway replenishment services. They contribute to the US Navy's ability to maintain a forward presence.
