The Siem Pearl became operational in August 2009, and is the first of 10 anchor handling vessels (AHTS) delivered to Siem Offshore.
The Siem Pearl is the first delivery of Wärtsilä’s VS 491 CD AHTS ship designs. These very large Anchor Handling / Tug Supply vessels are designed to carry out anchor handling, towing and supply functions for the offshore/oilfield industry, as well as sub-sea support work. The vessel features Wärtsilä’s Low Loss Concept, a diesel electrical power distribution system that increases fuel efficiency.
The Wärtsilä clean design hybrid solution consists of a combined diesel-electric and diesel-mechanical system. This means the ship can switch between different modes to achieve continuous and optimal efficiency. Compared to conventional diesel-mechanical vessels, dynamic positioning operation offers fuel savings of up to 50%.
