Extension of Wärtsilä O&M agreement will ensure availability and reliability of a Pakistani power plant

Wärtsilä Corporation, Press release 31 March 2025 at 10:30 UTC+2
  • Technology group Wärtsilä has signed a renewal of its Operation and Maintenance Agreement covering the 165 MW Attock Gen Limited power plant in Rawalpindi, Pakistan.

Technology group Wärtsilä has signed a renewal of its Operation and Maintenance (O&M) Agreement covering the 165 MW Attock Gen Limited (AGL) power plant in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. The extension of this agreement will ensure the plant’s operational performance throughout AGL’s remaining 9-year power purchase agreement (PPA) to supply electricity to the national grid. The order was booked by Wärtsilä in March 2025.

“Wärtsilä has operated and maintained this plant very efficiently since it commenced commercial operations in 2009, and we are pleased to continue this successful arrangement until the end of the PPA. Naturally, the PPA is very important to us, and by extending the O&M agreement with Wärtsilä, we are securing our ability to meet this commitment,” says Saleem Anwar, Assistant General Manager of AGL.

The plant operates with nine Wärtsilä 46 engines, with heat recovery boilers on each, and one 11.6 MWe steam turbine which makes it a highly efficient power plant.

“For Attock Gen Limited to honour its PPA requirements, the availability and reliability of this power plant are essential. Wärtsilä has clearly demonstrated its ability to run and maintain operations in a way that ensures these requirements are met. We appreciate AGL's confidence in our expertise,” comments Alexandre Eykerman, Energy Business Director, Middle East at Wärtsilä Energy.

AGL is an Independent Power Producer and was the first IPP commissioned under the Government of Pakistan’s 2002 Policy for Power Generation Projects.
