Up to 80% of transpacific container shipping legs and 43% of voyages can be powered by hydrogen, says the newest study by the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT). This shall imply slight changes in fuel capacity or operations:

adding one additional port of call for refueling;
or replacing 5% of cargo space with extra tanks for hydrogen.

While for ships that would add a need to divert from their traffic pattern in order to have an extra port of call, ports must be ready to accommodate changes.
In case of an additional port call and necessity to accommodate additional traffic, ports do require a solution for just-in-time arrivals where efficiency of operations comes forward.

Wärtsilä Navi-Port is exactly such a platform that has applied the port call message standard as defined by the Sea Traffic Management (STM) Validation project. Wärtsilä has been one of the main contributors to the STM developments and trials, where more than 300 vessels have participated, 130 of which have used Wärtsilä navigation systems.
