Are you prepared for the next port state control inspection? Or what do you do if your vessel is detained and cannot continue on schedule?
To mitigate the risks, DNV GL compiled a report (March 2020) or “a checklist” on the Top Port State Control deficiencies. No surprise, safety of navigation is in top priorities.
"Safety of navigation is among Top Port State Priorities", - DNV GL report shows.
The latest DNV GL inspection found charts expired. The problem persists; previous DNV inspections in Oct 2016 and before showed the same issues.
Safety of navigation implies electronic charts (ECDIS) for the intended voyage are available and updated. The independent back-up arrangements are done - and allow safe navigation for the remaining part of the voyage, even in case of the system failure.
What can I do to indulge in safety? Connect your ECDIS.
A connected ECDIS allows navigational data to be downloaded from the cloud automatically, ensuring that the vessel has the latest nautical updates and weather forecasting information. Having ECDIS connected, ship operators can also solve software-related questions remotely, along with getting the latest software updates.
