Captive power plant

Meeting the power requirements of 30 captive consuming industries with 99.6% reliability

In the Bawal Industrial Area in Haryana, India, more than a decade ago, industries faced a critical challenge: a limited and unreliable power supply. With only 18 hours of grid power available each day, industrial production was frequently interrupted, and costs soared due to reliance on diesel-generated power to maintain 24/7 operations. These frequent power outages significantly affected the productivity and profitability of the industries in Bawal.

The collaboration between Wärtsilä and Caparo for setting up a 36 MW group captive power plant led to the creation of a state-of-the-art, highly efficient power plant designed to deliver reliable and continuous power to the industries in Bawal. Caparo is a leading diversified business group with interests in design, manufacture, marketing, and distribution of value-added steel and niche engineering products for the Automobile and Engineering industries.

Starting operations in 2012, the plant has become a hallmark of quality power. Today, it supplies stable and reliable power to about 30 industries.

Through this innovative and visionary collaboration, the Bawal Industrial Area has transformed into a hub of productivity and growth, setting a benchmark for industrial power solutions across India.
