OCP Ecuador

OCP Ecuador S.A. has built the Heavy Crude Oil Pipeline, the most important project developed in Ecuador since the 1970s. The project encompassed the management, engineering, procurement and construction needed to install a new heavy crude oil pipeline system, with the goal of increasing Ecuador's export capacity.

The consortium of OCP (Oleoducto de Crudos Pesados) contains six of the world's largest oil companies, and its initial stages, one of the world's most prestigious international construction companies. OCP Ecuador S.A.'s goal was to build oil pipeline and transport crude oil from Nueva Loja and Baeza to the OCP Marine Terminal in Esmeraldas.

OCP is a transport system comprised an oil pipeline with an approximate length of 503 kilometers that connects the oil receiving Amazonas Terminal, located in Nueva Loja (Lago Agrio), with the OCP Maritime Terminal in the Esmeraldas Province.

Wärtsilä solution
Wärtsilä has supplied 22 centrifugal pumps with drivers for four pumping stations to the OCP pipeline. The pumping units lift the heavy crude oil over the Andes Mountains to the Pacific coast. Each pumping unit consists of one Wärtsilä 12V32LN crude-oil-fuelled engine with a horizontal split-case centrifugal pump and a gearbox speed increaser. Wärtsilä also supplied the required fuel treatment, cooling and control systems and other auxiliaries for the pumping units. Together these pumping units have an engine power of over 99 MW (ISO condition).

Wärtsilä also supplied two baseload power plants for the pumping stations Amazonas and Sardinas, each consisting of two crude-oil-fuelled Wärtsilä 6R32LN engines and one standby diesel-fuelled Wärtsilä 12V200 generating set, which produce electricity for the pumping stations.
