Wärtsilä's Sustainable Technology Hub: An ecosystem of co-creation

To shape the decarbonisation of the marine and energy industries, Wärtsilä has made a major investment in the Sustainable Technology Hub in Finland.

Wärtsilä’s Sustainable Technology Hub (STH) in Vaasa is a cutting-edge facility that marks a significant leap forward in our mission to decarbonise the marine and energy industries. This innovative centre is not just about research and development, it’s a launchpad for clean technologies that redefine how we innovate and produce.

Meet Jonna Suomela, General Manager for Competence and Capacity Management at the STH. Jonna shares how her biggest highlight has been to work in different organisations, in different roles with skilled and motivated colleagues. Her organisation is the place ‘where magic is built’ she proudly says. Her team ensure there are right number of people available at the assembly teams, in the right place at the right time.

Our state-of-the-art STH integrates various Centres of Excellence, enabling efficient testing and development of new solutions by harnessing Wärtsilä's global expertise.  Completed in 2022, the technology hub is accelerating the development and innovation in the maritime and energy industries towards low carbon, carbon neutrality and the energy transition.
